It’s definitely going to be a while before we can expect to see Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 in theaters, but fans of Chris Pratt have a new science fiction action adventure to tide them over while they wait. A trailer for the new Amazon Prime movie The Tomorrow War has just dropped, showing the actor in his first live-action film role since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Pratt plays Dan Forester, a high school teacher and former Delta Force operator living a comfortable suburban life with his wife and child—until time travelers from the future arrive and start drafting civilians in the present to jump forward and fight in a war against an unknown, extraterrestrial enemy with the potential to wipe out all human life on the planet.
And because it wouldn’t be an action movie unless its leading man got a shirtless scene to justify all of that working out, the trailer also includes a scene in which Pratt strips to the waist for some kind of sci-fi plot-related procedure, while simultaneously displaying his jacked-but-in-a-believable-schoolteacher-kind-of-way torso.
This will be old hat to Pratt, who famously lost his Parks and Recreation-era tummy and got shredded to play Peter Quill in the MCU, and has maintained his leaner physique in a variety of other action roles. And he’s strong, too: strong enough to take on UFC fighter Randy Couture in a wrestling match, and even impress Arnold Schwarzenegger with his incline press.
The Tomorrow War also stars J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man), Betty Gilpin (The Hunt), Sam Richardson (Veep), Edwin Hodge (The Purge) andYvonne Strahovski (Chuck), and will begin streaming on Amazon Prime on July 2.
